Privacy

This is a personal site. There is no account system, no comment system, and no backend that stores data about you. What follows is a plain-language summary of the third-party tooling the site does use, and what each of those tools sees.

Analytics

The site uses Google Analytics 4 to count page views and understand which articles people are reading. GA4 sets cookies in your browser and sends a small amount of data to Google: the URL of the page you are on, the page title, your approximate location (derived from IP, no precise geolocation), the device and browser you are using, and a randomly-generated identifier so repeat visits can be counted as the same session.

Analytics is disabled on draft articles and on local development builds, so unpublished work does not get tracked.

If you do not want to be counted, any standard ad blocker or browser tracking-protection setting will block GA4 entirely. The site is designed to work the same with or without analytics loaded.

Hosting and request logs

The site is hosted on GitHub Pages. As with any web host, request logs may record your IP address and the resource you requested. Those logs are controlled by GitHub and governed by their privacy policy.

Fonts

The site loads fonts from Google Fonts. When fonts load, your browser makes a request to Google’s CDN, which means Google sees the IP address of the request. Nothing else from this site is shared with Google during font loading.

What is not collected

There is no email signup form, no newsletter subscription, no form that asks for your name or contact details. The only way I receive your information is if you choose to email me directly.

Cookies in summary

Cookies on this site come from Google Analytics. They are used for visit counting, not for advertising or cross-site tracking. Clearing your browser’s cookies for dustinward.me will remove them.

Contact
